The Prologue
With my plane flight to London at 6am tomorrow it has suddenly hit me that I have to pack my life for the next 10 weeks into a packback. And what exactly does a student need for 10 weeks of roaming? A handful of clothes. Check. Sanitaries. Check. Towel. Check. Flat shoes. Check. Passport. Check. Money. Check. Realistically those are my basics and anything else I can pick up along the way. Knowing that I am started with a very small budget I haven't booked accomodation along the way. I am relying on friends of friends to suddenly pop out from all over Europe, couchsurfing, workaway and if all my cheap plans go down the drain, it's not hard to google cheap hostels and the city of your choice. So my advice, even from the beginning is to not book everything down to a t if you are working with a budget. Bin that itinery for every single monument that you must take a picture of. Go with the flow because you never know what opportunity may arise, who you will meet or what you will see. Stick with your common sense, your natural instinct of safety and what is right and wrong. Hopefully I will be able to reiterate all these values throughout my travels, but for now - Slán go fóill!
